The Springfield Armory 1911 DS Prodigy is a double-stack, 1911-style semi-automatic pistol chambered in 9mm. The 127mm (5-inch) configuration combines the traditional 1911 operating platform with a higher-capacity double-stack magazine system and a polymer grip module mounted to a steel frame. The Prodigy series is designed with an optics-ready slide and incorporates contemporary features while retaining familiar 1911-style controls and ergonomics.

Springfield Armory describes the Prodigy platform as using a forged steel frame with a polymer grip module and double-stack magazine configuration.
